CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY
Working with Communities
Silver Standard's community relations program is based on open and frequent communication with the members of communities where we operate, and a cooperative approach to local development activities that promote long-term economic and social benefits. By continually reaching out to the communities surrounding our projects, we can meet our operational goals while being a good corporate neighbor.
We are engaged with these communities in numerous ways, with training and employment, the development of infrastructure, and the support for education being key parts of our program.

Nuevo Pirquitas School

San Luis school library program
Pirquitas
During the construction phase of the Mina Pirquitas project over 1,000 people were employed, and at full production the mine will employ more than 550. Over 90% of the local people available to work from the five communities in the surrounding vicinity work at the mine site, reflecting a high rate of local employment. We are working with community leaders on projects such as road infrastructure, heating installation for the local schools, and small business development initiatives, in many cases providing technical assistance to complement resources provided by the government.
San Luis
At our San Luis Project in Peru, we support the surrounding communities through a program of rotational employment and assistance with road construction, community development, health and educational programs, including the donation of small libraries.
Pitarrilla
The Pitarrilla exploration and development project is situated inside the Casas Blancas community in Durango State, Mexico. Since our exploration activities began in 2003, we have built a strong relationship with the community. To date, 66% of the workforce for the project is from Casas Blancas. We have worked to improve roads and conduct environment care workshops for the schools in the area, and have contributed materials for the health center in nearby San Francisco.
